MELAKA, March 25 — The Wanita Umno movement has pledged its solid support for Barisan Nasional (BN) during the 13th general election to be held soon as indicated by the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
The movement’s head, Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil said this was because the women in the country greatly appreciated political stability, racial solidarity and economic development which had always been the concern of the Prime Minister who is also the Umno president.
“I’m confident that women voters will give strong support to the Prime Minister and his leadership during the 13th general election. Issues on women have always been given priority like never before,” she told reporters after attending the 1Malaysia Family Day 2012 at the Melaka State level officiated by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam, at the Dataran Sejarah, here today.
Shahrizat, who is also the Women, Family and Community Development Minister, said there was no reason why the women, especially Wanita Umno, should not support Najib’s leadership.
Commenting on the list of women candidates, she said she would meet with all the state Wanita Umno heads to gather feedback and the list of candidates in the near future. “This is the last meeting to gather the list of candidates which had actually not been forwarded to the Prime Minister,” she said.
Shahrizat said that in terms of more Wanita Umno candidates being fielded for the 13th general election, it had always been the desire of the movement for for more women to be fielded but this had yet to be decided.
Meanwhile, Mohd Ali was confident that the BN would win with a two-third majority based on the various achievements made through the transformation plan involving areas such as the economy, development and politics.
