JOHOR BAHRU, Nov 14: Police arrested three individuals, including a woman on suspicion of kidnapping a Bangladeshi man in the Iskandar Puteri district here.
Iskandar Puteri District Police Chief ACP Noor Hashim Mohamad said the three suspects, one of whom was a foreign national, aged between 25 to 38 years, were detained at a restaurant in Semenyih, Selangor.
He said the arrests were made following a report lodged by the victim’s nephew at about 6.21 pm on Sunday at Iskandar Puteri police headquarters.
“The nephew received a telephone call from one of the suspects, using the victim’s mobile phone, saying his uncle had been kidnapped and demanding a ransom of RM45,000 to be deposited into the suspect’s Maybank account before 2 pm.
“The suspect also threatened to kill the victim if the nephew failed to meet the demand,” Noor Hashim said in a statement here this afternoon.
Following the arrest, the 41-year-old victim was also rescued unharmed. He was found at a business premises and was taken to Sultanah Aminah Hospital for a medical examination.
Noor Hashim said the suspects’ modus operandi was to trick the victim and abduct him.
Police also seized two cars, 10 mobile phones, a bank account book and a bunch of keys from the suspects, he said.
“The foreign man, who is also an illegal immigrant, was remanded for 14 days while the two local suspects have been remanded for four days from today to facilitate investigations,” he added.
