SEPANG, July 17: The shortage of teachers in Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Tamil (SJKT) is in non-core subjects like music or art, said MIC President Datuk Seri Dr S Subramaniam.
According to Dr Subramaniam the reason for the shortage of teachers could be due to the lack of aspiring teachers choosing core subjects like English, Tamil, Science and Mathematics instead of music and art when entering Teachers’ Training Institutes.
“The shortage of teachers in non-core subjects at SJKT has hampered the government’s efforts to ensure a holistic education system in the country,” said Dr Subramaniam when opening the upgraded Bandar Baru Salak Tinggi SJKT, here today.
Dr Subramaniam also suggested that the Education Ministry ensure a balanced intake of teachers in core and non-core subjects at teachers’ training institutes.
Meanwhile, the Bandar Baru Slak Tinggi SJKT which has 323 students and 28 teachers was upgraded at a cost of RM250,000 since 2015.
“Apart from providing enough qualified and well trained teachers, there must also be enough infrastructure and facilities to produce students who excel in their studies,” said Dr Subramaniam.– Bernama
