KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 11: Leaders in Sarawak have expressed shock and grief over the death of Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem, describing his passing as a huge loss to the state.
Natural Resources and Environment Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar said Adenan was a respected leader who had brought many significant changes to the state.
He said he had known Adenan since the 1970s and he was also known for his fatherly advice and the guidance he provided to other leaders.
Adenan died at about 1.20pm at the Sarawak Heart Centre in Kota Samarahan, Kuching, 16 days before his 73rd birthday.
“For me, the late Adenan was not only a leader but also a close friend, and we understood each other very well, even during our political ups and downs. I have lost someone close to me whom I had great respect for and who shared a common interest of reading about state history and politics,” he said to Bernama. –Bernama
