Police cripple illegal moneylending syndicate

KUANTAN, Feb 17: The police have crippled an unlicensed moneylending syndicate here with the arrest of six men and seizure of items linked to its activities on Tuesday.

The suspects, who were picked in an operation dubbed ‘Ops Vulture’ were remanded for five days, begining Feb 15.

Kuantan police chief ACP Abdul Aziz Salleh said two of the suspects in their 20s, were caught red-handed putting up a banner advertising their money-lending

activities in Jalan Darat Makbar here today.

Upon investigating, he said the police found 12 advertising banners in a car.

At a press conference here today, Abdul Aziz said after questioning the two suspects, the police detained four other men, also in their 20s, from a car in Teluk Chempedak and a house in Taman Ruby.

He said in total, the police seized 1,392 banners, five automated teller machine cards, seven handphones, 112 loan document sets, three record journals and three cars.
