SEREMBAN, Apr 21: Negeri Sembilan Badminton Association is thankful that a potential crisis regarding Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM)’s presidency, has been averted and relevant matters, resolved amicably.
Its president David Wee Toh Kiong credited BAM patron Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor and Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin for the positive outcome.
“It shows that BAM is an exemplary association and that negotiation is the best way to settle any issue. It also shows Rosmah and Khairy’s maturity in placing the unity of the association above self interest.
“As I have stated before, there was no necessity for a contest as BAM acting president Tan Sri Mohamed Al-Amin Abdul Majid and deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Norza Zakaria have their respective strengths,” he told Bernama here today.
He was commenting on BAM council members’ unanimous decision for Datuk Seri Mohamad Norza Zakaria to not be challenged for the post when the national association holds its annual general meeting on April 29.
BAM council members in a closed-door meeting with Rosmah and Khairy yesterday agreed for Mohamed Al-Amin to give way to Mohamad Norza in taking over the leadership.
On association members’ decision to fully support a motion for Mohamed Al-Amin to be appointed as BAM adviser, Wee believed the combined strengths of both leaders could steer the nation to greater heights in the sport.
“This could be seen through the successes of our national shuttlers including Datuk Lee Chong Wei and Goh Vee Shem/Tan Wee Kiong who won medals at the Rio Olympics in 2016,” he noted.
He also believed Mohamad Norza being a young leader could inject fresh blood into BAM. — Bernama
