Non-bailable warrant issued by India for Zakir Naik
KUALA LUMPUR, Apr 21: India has issued a non-bailable warrant (NBW) against fugitive preacher Dr Zakir Naik via a special court of India’s National Investigation Agency (NIA)
According to Times of India, the preacher had not responded to his three summons by NIA.
NIA special judge VV Patil was reported saying that, “There are reasonable grounds to believe that Dr Zakir Naik is evading arrest and he will not voluntarily appear before the court or the investigating agency . As such I am of the view that an NBW of arrest is necessary to be issued.”
NIA had stated that it was found that Zakir Naik has been encouraging his followers, through public speeches, lectures and talks, to promote, on grounds of religion, disharmony or feelings of enmity, hatred and ill will between different religious communities and groups.
Lately, Malaysians have been at an uproar that the controversial preacher was said to have had a Malaysian permanent resident status (PR) for the pass 5 years which has just recently has been brought to light.
The televangelist was also in Malaysia a few days back where he received an award where it was presented to him by right-wing Malay wing movement Perkasa.
