Naza Group Supports WFP’s Nutrition Work

KUALA LUMPUR: The Naza Group supports the United Nations World Food Programme’s (WFP) nutrition work targeting mothers and their young children in Asia. In a statement today, Naza said its donation would allow WFP to provide specialised nutritious foods to over 3,000 pregnant or nursing mothers and their infants in in Asia which are most in need of financial support.

Joint group executive chairman/chief executive officer of the Naza Group of Companies, SM Nasarudin SM Nasimuddin, said the company was pleased to support the WFP’s efforts.

“The provision of the right nutrition for the development of healthy bodies and healthy minds, especially in the first 1,000 days of life, from the womb to the age of two is crucial for the future of Asia.

“Without the right nutrition in their early years, children will never achieve their full development potential. Naza Group wants to play its part in the fight to end hunger in Asia, as it is a long-term investment in our region’s future,” he said.

Naza said it would also sponsor an online WFP Hunger Quiz in July 2012 to build awareness and grow support from Malaysia for the fight against hunger in Asia.

The online quiz (http://quiz.wfp.org/) would bear the branding of Naza Group of Companies to highlight the Malaysian private sector’s support to WFP, it said. WFP works in over 70 countries around the world and in 14 countries in Asia, nourishing children through the whole life cycle, building the brains and bodies of the next generation.
