KUALA LUMPUR, Mar 21: Former law minister Datuk Zaid Ibrahim has predicted that the Barisan Nasional (BN) will likely lose the next general election.
“I have never seen an awakening of the people of Malaysia at the scale which we are now witnessing.
“Because of this, I am certain that Datuk Seri Najib Razak and gang will be defeated at the coming General Election.
“His friendship with Pas is the nail in the coffin.
“No political analyst would ever imagine such a scenario but if you want evidence of it, there is plenty if you care to look: the desperate move by the Election Commission to continue with its constituency redelineation without Selangor (which is currently challenging the exercise in court) is one such example,” Zaid said in his latest blog post.
“The Barisan Nasional thinks a redrawing of boundaries will help it win some seats but this is an exercise in futility,” he added.
Zaid claimed that the more Malays they have in a particular constituency, the more trouble BN will face.
“No redrawing of electoral boundaries can save them this time,” he said.
Zaid also claimed that the current PAS leaders under Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang are losing support in Kelantan.
“In the days of (former PAS president) Tok Guru Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat, PAS would gather 10,000 or so supporters at their political ceramah without difficulty.
“Today, PAS under Hadi can hardly organise a ceramah at all for fear that they will have no crowd,” he said.
Zaid said that when former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad spoke in Kota Bharu on Mar 15, there were at least 10,000 who attended the rally.
“Contrast that to a PAS ceramah a night later when PAS Deputy President Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man and Kelantan Menteri Besar Datuk Ahmad Yakob garnered only 1,200 supporters in Tumpat, which is 12km away from Kota Bharu.
“I am sure the people will dump Najib and gang this time.
“The general idea is that by working closely with PAS, BN will be saved.
“This will not happen.
“In fact, PAS will now destroy BN, after it almost succeeded in destroying Pakatan Rakyat. Selangor too must not be so gullible.
“Don’t think that by being PAS friendly, the people will close their eyes and vote for the incumbent.
“In today’s politics, you cannot always have the cake and eat it!” he added.
