MIC candidates ready to put ’08 behind
KUALA LUMPUR, April 17: The Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC) has ended speculation on the candidate list and seat allocation for the party for the 13th General Election (GE13).
The party will be contesting in nine parliamentary seats and 18 state seats with 14 new faces being fielded.
All candidates have been thoroughly briefed and prepared to ensure that party to wins in all seats being contested.
The MIC youth chief T Mohan said that, he fully supports and backs president, Datuk Seri G Palanivel’s choice of candidates.
T Mohan, who contested in Batu Caves during 2008, has been nominated for the Sri Andalas state seat.
“Sri Andalas is a good state. The chances are good for BN to gain the seat,” he said.
During 2008 election, Mohan lost in his first outing in the Batu Caves state seat. When asked on what changes have been made since then, he said that, “Batu Caves was a hot seat. We didn’t have sufficient time to prove to the people.”
Mohan said that, the people of Sri Andalas have lost hopes on the opposition. They want BN to take back the Selangor state.
“A candidate has to be ready to serve the people regardless where constituency is. Even one vote is important and we will make sure it counts, “he said when asked on his opinion of the party leader’s choice on candidates.
Hulu Selangor incumbent Member of Parliament, P Kamalanathan, who will be defending his seat, said that he is well-prepared to serve the constituency for another term.
“The support is good and we will ensure the victory for the party,” the MIC putera co-ordinator said.
Kamalanathan said that, good track record for the past three years will ensure the support of the people in the constituency.
“I believe the people in Hulu Selangor will help us to retain the seat,” he said.
Kamalanathan won the Hulu Selangor parliamentary seat in a by-election, held on April 2010.
MIC Kapar co-ordinator A Sakthivel, who has been nominated for the Kapar parliament parliamentary seat, said that, he will give importance to the people of Kapar without thinking about the competition.
“It will not be an easy-win seat but the chance of winning is higher compared with previous election,” the MIC Puchong division chief said.
Kedah MIC state chief S Ananthan said that, choosing a high ranking personal in the Kedah MIC is a good move to wrest Lunas and Bukit Selambau state seat.
“We will help Barisan Nasional to win back Kedah,” said Ananthan, who also the party Central Committee (CWC) member said.
While, MIC Kedah deputy chief, M L Maran, who will be contesting for the Bukit Selambau seat, said that the GE13 will be a milestone in his political carrier.
He said that, with the help of all party components the MIC has an excellent chance to win the Bukit Selambau seat.
