PETALING JAYA, March 6 : English Premier League (EPL) outfit, Chelsea FC will play a friendly match against a Malaysian selection at the Shah Alam Stadium, on July 21.
The trip to Malaysian shores, which is part of The Blues’s pre-season Asian Tour, is their third since 2008 when they beat the Malaysian side 2-0 before registering a slim 1-0 win against the same side in 2011.
Chelsea FC Chief Executive, Ron Gourlay said team manager Rafael Benitez is expected to field his first squad, including their new signings, French-born Senegalese striker Demba Ba and Belgian international midfielder, Eden Hazard during the match here.
“We are delighted to be back to Malaysian shores for the third time after two successful trips in 2008 and 2011. We hope Malaysian fans will enjoy the match with the great line-up of players that we have,” he told reporters when announcing the matter, here today.
He said Benitez’s side would earlier play a friendly match against Thailand’s All-Star XI on July 17 in Bangkok before concluding their Tour against an Indonesian selection on July 25 at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium in Jakarta.
Gourlay said during the team’s five-day stay here, the players would be, involved in several community programmes with selected home charities.
Meanwhile, ProEvents International Managing Director, San Boon Wah said the tickets for the match would be on sale starting in May.
“We have yet to finalise details on the ticket sales…we will make an announcement once we have finalised it,” he said.
San expected that ticket sales for this year’s match would increase as in 2008 and 2011, some 55,000 and 85,000 tickets were sold out respectively.
