Malacca assembly speaker suspends 5 DAP reps for 6 mths

MALACCA: Malacca State Assembly Speaker Datuk Othman Muhamad suspended five DAP representatives for six months for creating a ruckus in the state assembly on Wednesday and bringing proceedings to a halt.

The Opposition assemblymen will be barred from the next proceeding scheduled to be held this October.

The five DAP representatives – Goh Leong San (Kesidang), Betty Chew Gek Cheng (Kota Laksamana), Lim Jak Wong (Bachang) Khoo Poay Tiong (Ayer Keroh ) Tey Kok Kiew (Bandar Hilir) – walked out of the house after Othman issued the suspension order.

Wednesday is the third day of the state legislative assembly but proceedings ended within 10 minutes after a noisy row erupted between Barisan Backbenchers and Opposition.

Goh who is the state DAP chairman, when met later described the suspension order as “grossly unfair and absurd”.
