Journalists

The Malaysian Times is looking for well-experienced journalists who are willing to join the team. We will prefer candidates who already have experience with Online media. Following is the job description:

At The Malaysian Times, we expect our journalists to seek out news and bring it to the public as quickly as possible. They must present the story in a way that informs the public and engages them.

A journalist may need to:

        • Attend press conferences, courts, council meetings and other events
        • Interview people by phone or in person
        • Respond to tip-offs, calls and news releases
        • Record notes in shorthand or on tape and write stories up on computer

 

The journalist will have a pressure of adhering to deadlines and getting exclusive stories out ahead of the competition. It is the journalist’s duty to keep their stories balanced, fair and lawful. You will be reporting to your News Editor or Managing Editor, i.e. in the absence of News Editor.

Long and unpredictable hours are common in journalism. Journalists generally work 39 hours a week, but they may work shifts including early starts, nights and some weekends. They may have to travel where the news is, and may sometimes work outdoors.

Interns

Interns have always been an essential part of The Malaysian Times editorial team. We are looking for young and vibrant graduates to join the TMT team. Here at our TMT office , you will receive real, hands-on training and guidance in producing exclusive stories.
