BANGI, Dec 19: The 2016 World Arabic Language Day (WALD 2016) was celebrated on a grand scale here from Dec 16 to 18 with various activities held such as story-telling competition, theatre performance and poetry declamation contest in Arabic.
The celebration, organised by the Malaysian Islamic Education, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (ISESCO) in collaboration with the Education Ministry and Malaysian National News Agency (BERNAMA) was held at the Kolej Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Selangor (KUIS).
The World Arabic Language Day is celebrated on Dec 18 each year in conjunction with the selection of the language by the United Nations (UN) as one of the official languages of the world body.
ISESCO Malaysia director Dr Abdul Razif Zaini said the programme hopefully could become the platform to elevate mastery of the Arabic language.
“The program received strong response among students pursuing subjects in the Arab language streams throughout Malaysia,” he said when met by Bernama after the prize-giving ceremony for the short video contest organised by the ISESCO Malaysia, here on Sunday.
