Donald Lim: Women hold important roles in economic sectors

PETALING JAYA, Nov 2 : Malaysia is among the few countries in the world which has a dominant representation of women in decision-making levels of the economic sector, said Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Donald Lim.
Lim said that figures showed a continuous positive involvement of women in important roles in organisations.

“As of June 2012, 63.2% of dental officers in Malaysia are women, 49.6% of accountants, 49.2% of lawyers and 47.2% in the medical profession,” Lim said, while launching a women safety workshop in SJK (C) Chen Moh on Friday.

The workshop was jointly organised by the Women, Family and Community Development Ministry, Persatuan Suara Wanita Selangor & Kuala Lumpur and the Petaling Jaya police department.

Also present was Women, Family and Community Development deputy minister Datuk Heng Seai Kie.

On the workshop, Heng said it was “the first initiative under the second phase of the National Key Results Area (NKRA) to fight crime,” and that the Government has taken steps to maximise security in public areas for the protection of people, especially women.- TMT
