‘Ali Baba the Musical’ at Istana Budaya

Kuala Lumpur, Dec 11: Ali Baba the Musical, adapted from Tan Sri P. Ramlee’s film, ‘Ali Baba Bujang Lapok’, will hit the Istana Budaya stage from Dec 21 to 29.

According to the Istana Budaya public relations unit, the musical which was re-made in 2006, will feature changes to attract more enthusiasts of local musicals to appreciate the works of the late thespian.

It said in a statement that the musical would be the closing event for Istana Budaya’s performances this year.

“Six years ago, Ali Baba was made into a children’s musical involving 80 children, aged between five and 12, with Aznil Nawawi playing the starring role as the head of a gang of thieves.

“However, this time, the musical has a teen concept and futuristic elements using sophisticated technology. We also maintain elements of Arab music to give a fresh take in various genres, including ballet, rock and tango,” it added.

Besides the use of interesting costumes in dances, the audience will also be entertained by professional magician Mahdi Mousidi who has been invited from Iran.

Among actors lined-up for the show are Aznil, Fizo Omar, Ebby Yus, Elfira Loy, Najua P. Ramlee, Zarina Raja Lawak, Aziz M. Osman and Danish Zakwan.

Tickets can be obtained through and the Istana Budaya Box Office Counter for RM30, RM50, RM70 and RM100.
